Welcome

I'm not going to say anything more about hockey other than this.

Welcome to what the ending of the 03/04 playoffs felt like for me Oiler fans.
Kind of sucks doesn't it?

Wow Ross, you posted the exact same thing on two blogs. I'll c/p my response on your blog here as well:

actually, I';m goign to say that this is nothing how you feel Ross. The flames blew two chances to win the Cup, includijng one at home. Edmonton clawed their way back into a series that everyone thought was so over that becketts made an early Carolina cover. And they did it with Jussi Fucking Markannen between the pipes. It kills now, but in a few days we can take solace in these things, and that will be a good thing.

Hey, double posting party! I'm in!!!

I've been thinking about this for a while, and after much comparison and deliberation, here's my relatively imparitial analysis of the '04 Flames vs. the '06 Oilers:

In terms of atmosphere (keep in mind I was on Whyte once in the run for maybe 30 minutes), I'd take the Flames over the Oilers. The Red Mile had a seemingly friendlier environment, less likely for violence and more prone to rampant nudity (flamesgirls.com). The Blue/Whyte/Copper mile was, in my estimation, a far cry from what Calgary put together. It seemed like a caveman convention, where bumping into the wrong person was legitimate grounds for an ass-whupping, where what few girls did show themselves on the Ave (the shameful few are on bluemile.ca) were free game for said cavemen to hit on, grope or catcall. It reminded me a lot of going to Cowboys in Fort McMurray. Which brings me to my next point: there are drunk assholes everywhere, especially in Alberta, which, as some people tend to forget in the whole Edmonton vs. Calgary thing, both cities are located. In the end though, I'd take my chances in Calgary.

In terms of hockey, things change. If I think of both teams wearing blank white jerseys and TMNT masks (meaning I didn't know which ones were the Oilers), I'd end up picking the run that this year's Oilers made. I mean, squeaking into the playoffs as an eight-seed, taking out Detroit (which may not be the hardest thing in the world to do anymore, considering they seem to be fond of ducking out of the postseason early), overcoming the defecit against San Jose, getting hot against the Ducks, and then overcoming the seemingly crushing loss of Rollison to force a seventh game, you can't top that.

The Flames' run was surprising and entertaining, but as much as Rossy's going to hate for me to say it, the Oilers' run was stunning and in my mind, better than the Flames'. For what it's worth, I hope that I'm as far from Edmonton as possible if it ever happens again.
