The greatest first round game 7 ever?

For those of you too hockey-obsessed to notice, the NBA's first round has been absolutely nuts. I could give you guys a series-by-series breakdown, but that'd be boring. Instead, I'm just going to go with the greatest moment of celeb insight I've ever had. Consider this:

Suns GM Jerry Colangelo

And Bears basketball head coach Don Horwood

Seperated at birth?

More updates to come.

-----Update-----

Kwame Brown is the NBA's version of Jeff Stork: can't catch a ball to save his life.

-----Update-----

With the Suns up 14 in the second, Kobe goes to the line to a "Kobe sucks" chant. He makes both free throws and does a Hulk Hogan-type hand to the ear thing to the crowd. Kobe, if you've ever wondered why 90% of NBA fans hate you, take a look at this tape after the game.

Suns up 15 at the half

-----Update-----

A Raja Bell trey puts Phoenix up 25 in the third quarter. Pending a ridiculous Kobe outburst in the fourth, which isn't entirely impossible, and a complete collapse on the part of the Suns, I think Kobe and the Lakers are gonna be playing golf tomorrow.

The third comes to an end and Kevin Harlan of TNT calls it: either we're going to see Kobe come out crazy in the fourth quarter, or the Lakers are going to be a part of playoff history. I'm leaning towards the latter. Kobe's done some amazing shit this season, but single-handedly overcoming a 25-point deficit in the fourth quarter of game seven against the Suns? I don't think so.

Phx 90—LA 65 end 3rd

-----Update-----

Suns totally own the fourth. When will Kobe take over? 26-point Suns lead and Kobe's doing nothing.

Kevin Harlan: Suns made no bones about it: they were going to to shove it inside, pound it inside...

Pat fuckin' Burke hits the insult trey on the Lakers. Pat Burke, who looks like the big bald guy from the Score (Tim McCallif?)

Kobe looks dejected as he sits on the bench.

Eddie House is going off in garbage time. Suns, 121: Lakers, 88. Ugly. Will Kobe cry?

No, not in front of the cameras, anyway. Kobe heads straight to the locker room with no handshakes. Class is...

Final score: Phx 121–LA 90

Postgame comments: Where was Kobe all night? Was he proving a point to Phil Jackson? Was PJ proving a point to him? Were the Suns just a better team? I kept waiting for Kobe to go off, or at least try to take over in the fourth; maybe it was too late for that. Maybe he should have tried that in the 3rd quarter. Either way, me and old Rossy polished off a case of Kokanee during the game and now we're ready for a night of adventure. Rock!

my question is how does Kobe let Raja punk him all game? He is clearly no MJ.

This is the strangest moment of Kobe's season, if not his career. It's one thing to lose game seven; it's a complete other thing to go out relying on your teammates and only taking three shots in the second half. There has to be something behind that. Maybe Kobe's proving a point to Jackson. Maybe he's going to try and get him ousted, or he'll say it's me or him that goes over the summer.

Kobe's convinced that he's MJ's reincarnate. For him to just fold like that means something. I just can't figure out what yet.

Kobe and Jackson, in my opinion, will both be back next year, regardless of this situation. I, too, am having a hard time explaining this lapse, though. Possible scenarios, in my mind:

- As you said, Chris, Kobe trying to prove a point to Phil, with the intention of getting him ousted. They have clashed before...
- Kobe getting frustrated at his inability to win with the Lakers, as the solo leader, and proving a point, with the intention of getting dealt. I've been hearing KG's name swirling around LA but, unless Kobe was part of the deal, I don't see that happening - even so, I absolutely don't see Minny jumping at Kobe... or likewise.
- Kobe, dare I say, realizing that he isn't quite the leader that he thinks he is (not scoring-wise, obviously) and that he CAN'T get it done by himself (to the point of winning a championship), thus proving a point to his teammates, with the intention that they either come to play every night so that it isn't just him out there, or force the Lakers' brass into bringing in some star reinforcement...

...or something to that extent. I dunno, I'm not much on the subject, so those are the best scenarios I can think of.

(Kobe sidenote: finishing 4th in MVP voting - especially after being speculated as a front-runner - on top of all this, must really be sittin' well with him. Talk about salt to the wound...)
